J.V. (for John Valdemar) Reistrup is an experienced writer and editor who can also handle a camera. This site is intended to show that he (that is, I) can transfer these skills to the Internet in a time when the print media with which I have most experience--newspapers, newsletters and magazines--are steadily shrinking.
It is normal for artists and photographers to maintain portfolios, but unusual for writers beyond the entry level to be called on to show their clippings. Nevertheless, I have gathered some examples of travel and feature or general-interest writing, as well as photography, for these pages. I have thrown in an essay, or op ed piece, and some unpublished fiction. I will add testimonials about my editing skills as I can come up with them. Fortunately, one fell readily to hand because the great political cartoonist Herbert Block included it in acknowledgements in his book, Herblock Special Report. In fact, it served as the inspiration for the name of this
Web site. Here it is:
